Leggings have long been my number one winter staple! They're simple, comfortable, and economical in many ways. With the multi-purpose-ness of leggings, save money on buying new clothes for winter, save money on buying pants, and mix-and-match with a minimalist wardrobe.
Not sure how you should wear them? The possibilities are endless! Read on, and become wise:
Under a dress or other skirt. Feel sad about packing away your favorite summer dresses? Don't! Slip some leggings on underneath, add a sweater or jacket, and rock that shorter look all the way through winter! Anything worn with tights can be worn with the substitution of leggings.
With a long shirt. Looking for a comfy, casual outfit for lounging, going to school, going shopping, etc? Leggings and a long shirt are sure to fit the bill, for any casual occasion.
With a long sweater. Prime coziness, at its finest. One of my favorite outfits to wear in the cold weather.
With a long poncho. Get that slouchy, soft look. No one ever said Kuzco and Pacha were the only ones allowed to rock this. Go for it!
Tie a flannel 'round it. Add some color, add some texture, add some flare, and BAM! Leggings are instantly wearable.
With a long, open kimono (or similar style) jacket. A great way to make an outfit interesting, incorporate color, and add a cool design.
If you get cold/have sensitive skin, layer leggings under pants for a warmer, softer experience.
Looking to buy your own pair of leggings? My current favorite pair is from Nordstrom. (I'm 5' 9.5" tall and they're actually long enough to cover my ankles!)
Especially as it starts to get cold out, you'll want to go for cozy. Leggings, when worn correctly, are the perfect answer: they both feel and look good. Their versatility means that you can match leggings with boots (my personal favorite is boots + tall socks with my leggings), sneakers, dress shoes, flats, or almost any other kind of shoes (although perhaps not flip-flops). Get funky, go crazy, and have fun!
Just remember: cover yourself, in case of sheerness and to avoid to excess form-fitting. Always make sure your top or other outerwear hangs past your bottom, at least in the back if not the front, too. Keep in mind that class and respect for your own body is always the number one concern.
